At the heart of Waitara sits Pure Bliss Beauty Spa, a sanctuary for wellness, connection, and transformation. Founded by Kate Beggs, a mother of four who pivoted from a dream of marine biology to a thriving beauty therapy career, the spa is now five years strong and intertwined with her kaupapa of care, whānau, and holistic wellbeing. Kate began her journey later in life, unsure of her direction but clear on one thing — she wanted to help people. What started as a leap into beauty therapy has grown into 14 years in the industry and an internationally recognised diploma.
Along the way, she has carved out her own unique approach: focusing on each client as a whole person, not just a treatment. Pure Bliss specialises in skin health, working with skin conditions and offering services like facials, massage, eyebrow treatments, and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) skin rejuvenation. Kate is currently training as a certified Skin Health Coach, adding nutrition and lifestyle to her toolbox to better support long-term results.
All skincare products at Pure Bliss are plant-based and free of harsh chemicals — an intentional choice that aligns with Kate’s belief in gentle, natural healing. Her clients often come in carrying stress and fatigue and leave standing taller, more confident, and deeply cared for. Now operating from her own shop in Waitara, Kate dreams of expanding her team and continuing to create space for others — especially māmā and rangatahi — to grow and thrive
As a Māori businesswoman, Kate reflects on the importance of community, resilience, and seeking support. In the early days, she wishes she’d known more about marketing, managing finances, and the support services available through organisations like Venture Taranaki. Having a business mentor in the past made a huge difference — someone to bounce ideas off, offer accountability, and remind her she’s not alone. “You can only do your best,” she says. “And you can’t please everyone — and that’s okay.”
