Ka pū te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi
Ramsey Glasgow’s journey into business has been anything but straightforward — a path shaped by resilience, hard-earned lessons, and a deep sense of responsibility to whānau.
Growing up around his father’s business, Glasgow Training Services, Ramsey was familiar with the training industry early on. However, he knew classroom learning and paperwork weren’t for him. Like many young Māori, he headed to Australia to find his independence. That time away proved formative, building confidence and self-reliance that would later serve him in both business and fatherhood.
Ramsey returned home when his father became seriously unwell, just as the training sector began changing. Large providers moved into the region, steadily eroding his father’s business. At only 24, Ramsey made a defining decision: to take what remained of his father’s legacy and start anew.
The early years were extremely challenging. Long hours, financial pressure, failed partnerships, and mounting debt marked one of the darkest periods of his life. As his family grew, so did the weight of responsibility. Providing for his whānau while trying to keep the business afloat created constant pressure. Yet those difficult years also delivered the greatest lessons. Over time, Ramsey rebuilt with greater caution, clarity, and intention.
Today, Glasgow Scaffolding stands on a strong foundation, supported by a loyal team and clear leadership structure. Ramsey credits much of that stability to the people around him — particularly his partner, Ebony, and long-term supervisor Matty. Together, Ramsey and Ebony navigate the demands of running a growing business while raising four young children, relying on constant communication, shared sacrifice, and a united vision.
In a male-dominated industry, Ramsey and Ebony are strong advocates for mental health within their workplace. Drawing on Te Whare Tapa Whā, they support staff wellbeing across all aspects of life, believing that when people are supported holistically, everyone benefits.
Ramsey now prioritises his own wellbeing too. Through exercise, reflection, and perspective, he has learned to manage stress in healthier ways. Challenges still arise, but he feels better equipped to meet them.
At its heart, Glasgow Scaffolding is a whānau-driven business. With four children growing up alongside it, Ramsey is focused on building not just success — but a legacy grounded in people, purpose, and pride.
